PEDC Annual Report

Each year, PEDC produces an annual report to highlight the accomplishments, goals and various projects that were completed in the previous year.

Greetings friends, colleagues and community partners,

Our community shares a vision for enhancing our economic vitality, and 2016 was another year of significant progress, with city sales tax revenues soaring to a record $29.7 million. From economic development recruitment successes to construction of our City’s first gateway monuments, the Pearland Economic Development Corporation’s (PEDC) board of directors and staff worked closely with community partners to implement projects that created opportunities and further advanced our shared vision.

In 2016, PEDC partnered with companies to bring more than $95 million in new capital investment into the community and achieve a milestone in our continued effort to be a community of choice for life science companies. In April, we welcomed Swiss pharma and biotech supplier Lonza to Pearland as one of the largest life science projects in the region’s history. PEDC also assisted new and existing employers – such as Lighting Etc., FloWorks and Profile Wire – with expansions and new facility construction.

Implementing the Pearland 20/20 community strategic plan continued to be our focus. We made remarkable progress on many of the plan’s key initiatives – from economic development marketing to the addition of critical infrastructure in the Lower Kirby District. We began executing the State Highway 35 Redevelopment Strategy and continued beautification efforts along the State Highway 288 corridor.

As we look forward to the opportunities that 2017 will bring, the PEDC board of directors and staff remain focused on maintaining our position as one of the nation’s most effective and efficient economic development organizations. Using the Pearland 20/20 plan as our guide, we will continue to work with the City to ensure that Pearland remains prepared for future population and economic growth. And in everything that we do, PEDC will continue to demonstrate that the best business opportunity in Houston is due south.

Sincerely,
Chair, Rushi Patel
