PEDC continually works to find gaps in workforce development and address them through innovative partnerships and initiatives, emerging as a regional leader in workforce development through several targeted initiatives and collaborative programs with community partners.
Growing Pearland's Biotech Workforce
BizConnect supports local businesses through resources, funding opportunities, and networking connections. Through this program, Pearland EDC identified a critical skills gap in the city's growing biotech sector. In response, PEDC partnered with Alvin College and industry leader Lonza to launch a two-tier Biotechnology Certificate Course—offering accelerated six- and twelve-week training tracks designed to quickly prepare new workers for entry-level roles.
This initiative directly addresses workforce demands in Pearland’s expanding life sciences industry, which includes major employers like Lonza, Millar Inc., and Merit Medical.
