Millar Selects Pearland’s Lower Kirby District for New Headquarters and Manufacturing Facility
Medical device manufacturer to build 56,000 square-foot headquarters, R&D, manufacturing and warehousing facility in Pearland
PEARLAND, Texas — Leadership from the City of Pearland and the Pearland Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) are pleased to announce that Millar, Inc. has chosen a site in Pearland’s Lower Kirby District for its new headquarters and manufacturing facility.
Millar, Inc. is a leading developer and manufacturer of pressure sensor-enabled devices that partners with global leaders in technology, manufacturing and healthcare to turn breakthrough technologies into life-saving medical innovations. Founded in 1969, Millar, Inc. pioneered the development of pressure sensor technology, directing its design and manufacturing expertise toward integrating that technology into catheters for life sciences and clinical applications.
“Many of our employees currently reside in Pearland, and as we bring new MEMS sensor enabled products to market, we are excited to continue to bring new jobs to the community,” stated Millar CEO, Tim Daugherty. “We felt the Lower Kirby district to be an ideal location that can support Millar’s long-term growth plans for the future.”
The PEDC and city officials began working with Millar in 2017 on its relocation to Pearland. The site Millar selected for its facility was part of tract owned by PEDC, which it sold to Millar. The 56,000 square-foot headquarters and manufacturing facility will also house the company’s R&D and warehouse functions. Located on a five-acre site on Kirby Drive just south of Beltway 8, the facility will be home to approximately 120 employees.
“The City of Pearland is honored to welcome Millar to Pearland and we look forward to a long partnership between them and our community,” stated Pearland Mayor Kevin Cole. “It has been a long-standing goal of the City to cultivate a diverse spectrum of life science and medical device related organizations to the community, specifically Lower Kirby, and Millar’s selection of Pearland for its headquarters and manufacturing facility is a testament to our efforts.”
Lower Kirby is a 1,200-acre mixed-use development in northwest Pearland, fronting South Beltway 8 and State Highway 288. The District is home to office, retail, commercial and industrial projects and continues to expand, particularly in the areas of life science, energy and manufacturing. Existing developments within the Lower Kirby District include life science projects such as Swiss-based Lonza’s viral and immunotherapy development and manufacturing facility – the largest dedicated cell and gene therapy manufacturing facility in the world, Merit Medical’s R&D and manufacturing facility, and Cardiovascular Systems, Inc.’s medical device manufacturing facility. Other developments in the District include Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corporation’s manufacturing and service facility, Dover Energy’s manufacturing and operations facility, Tool-Flo Manufacturing’s headquarters, training and manufacturing facility, Pearland Surgery Center and Bass Pro Shop.
Millar’s facility is being designed by Clay Development. Method Architecture is supporting architectural and interior design efforts. The facility is expected to open in 2022.
