PEDC President Recognized As One of Top 50 Economic Developers in North America

PEARLAND, Texas — Leadership from the Pearland Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) is excited to announce that President Matt Buchanan has been named to the 2019 list of North America’s Top 50 Economic Developers.

The economic development professionals selected for this list were nominated by their colleagues in both the economic development industry and the site consultant community for excellent practices, innovation and success in building the communities they serve. The list is developed each year by Consultant Connect, a consulting agency designed to bridge the gap between economic developers and site consultants.

“This annual list recognizing North America’s Top 50 Economic Developers is designed to acknowledge the hard work of the top leaders in this field and elevate the conversation around economic development and job creation,” said Ron Kitchens, managing partner of Consultant Connect. “Each of the leaders represented on this year’s list are beyond deserving of this recognition for their efforts in building our communities.”

“Matt is a remarkable asset to PEDC and the Pearland community as a whole,” stated Pearland Mayor Tom Reid.  “It has been a long-standing goal of the city to create a business friendly community with an outstanding quality of life for its residents, and the numerous economic development successes Pearland has experienced over the past several years are a testament to Matt’s leadership in achieving this goal.”

As President, Buchanan is responsible for implementation of the Corporation’s strategic priorities, which align with the Pearland 20/20 Community Strategic Plan, including business attraction, retention and marketing, transportation, mobility and infrastructure, Lower Kirby District, and corridors and beautification.  Under his leadership, the PEDC has attracted over $700 million in capital investment and recruited several major employers to the community, including Lonza, Endress+Hauser, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Compressor Corp., Kelsey-Seybold, Merit Medical Systems, Inc., and Dover Energy.

“On behalf of the PEDC board of directors, we congratulate Matt on his recognition as one of the top 50 economic developers in North America,” stated PEDC Chair, Brandon Dansby.  “Matt’s commitment and efforts to accomplish projects and create opportunities that advance our community’s vision for sustained growth have positioned PEDC as one of the most effective and efficient economic development organizations in the nation.”
